From a car mechanic to a non-professional car owner, everyone needs to have an understanding of the tools that can help him at the time of need. There is a list of ten common tools used in car repairing and maintenance.

JACK & JACK STAND: These tools are used for lifting a car off the ground. From replacing the front and rear brakes to changing a flat tire, jack and jack stands play a very important role in car repairs. Determine the curb weight of a car so that a jack stand has sufficient load rating to handle it. The curb rating of a jack stand must be half or greater than the curb weight of a car. A jack stand should have a long frame to horizontally reach jacking point of a car. Also, check the length of a jack stand arm. It should vertically reach the frame member.

LUG WRENCH: Lug wrenches, also known as tire irons, are the most common tire replacement tools. While removing lug nuts of the wheels, these L and X shaped lug wrenches are helpful in removing the hubcap.

To remove a particular type of fastener, a particular screwdriver is required. Hence, It is necessary to have every type of screwdriver to make the work hassle-free. In case, you drop one screw while working, a magnetized head screwdriver makes easier to extract it from the inaccessible gap.

PLIER SET: Pliers are multipurpose tools that are used in cutting and unhinging stuck nuts, cutting and bending thick wire, and compressing materials. It is recommended to have a plier set that consists of a few wire cutters and needle-nose pliers that reach the parts of a car that your fingers can not reach.

HAMMER SET: Hammers are not used very frequently in repairing and maintaining a car. However, these can be used while working on the metal body. By using the right auto body hammer, misalignment, and sight bumps can be rectified. A hammer set must consist of a rubber mallet to smoothing out dents.

SPARK PLUG SPANNER: To remove a spark plug without damaging and breaking it, all you need is a spark plug spanner or a socket wrench equipped with an extension and plug socket. These tools have a rubber grommet that provides a better grip while replacing or extracting a spark plug.

ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES: These are very handy tools to unscrew nuts and bolts. These tools are the best substitute for many wrenches in different sizes. However, it is a bit difficult to use them in constricted areas of the vehicle due to their thick heads.

TIRE INFLATOR: An air compressor is a great tool to inflate car tires. It is extremely light and easy to use. A 12-volt compressor can fill a car tire within a few minutes. Tire inflators are very helpful in maintaining the recommended air pressure in tires.

CAR MULTIMETER: To keep an eye on the amperage and voltage of the car’s battery, car multimeters are the best option.
